Day 105 - Official Beta Launch!!

life UserBit entrepreneurship

It was an intense day. Here are the highlights of the day:

  • 2:40 am — Woke up to get setup infront of the computer. The post would go live at 3, I wanted to get coffee etc ready to watch it start.

  • 3:00 am — the post went live and got featured pretty much immediately. however within a second or two there were posts with 40+ votes. So UserBit slipped down to #3. I guess who hunts the product really does matter?

  • 3:30 am — UserBit is hovering between rank 2-3. There are a ton of people visiting the site mostly from asia at this hour. I’m seeing something strange - GA is telling me that there are a lot of signup events fired, however I don’t see welcome emails going out, what’s going on?

  • 3:45 am — I don’t want to touch the code at this time because I know the setup has been working for the last few months. So, what’s different? The geographic location… how could that be a factor? My server is in mid US… so latency would be higher. Do I have shitty signup code somewhere, where this could be a factor? Quick inspection. Ugh! long story short, people with slower internet connection were running into a race condition issue which was throwing errors during signup.

  • 3:50 am — I could put in a patch now before it hits europe and US. Ok let’s risk it. I change the code really quickly, do a quick test and deploy it. Signup now seems to work fine… a little disappointed with myself but it is what it is. UserBit has slipped to #5

  • 5:00 am — UserBit climbs back up to #3. It is astonishing to me. As a niche product, I did not expect so many people to be intrigued/interested in it.

  • 10:00 am — I am truly proud of it and for the first time ever, I made a public post of linkedIn announcing the launch of UserBit Beta.

  • 2:00 pm — Lots of friends are reaching out with congratulations but no complains yet. Users are signing up for paid plans. Some are already conducting interviews?!

  • 3:00 pm — UserBit seems very stable for now. No error reports, a few enhancement requests from users but overall things are good.

  • 5:00 pm — I decide to take a break from the screen UserBit is sitting comfortably at #4 right now and I am feeling good about the launch.

  • 6:00 pm — Product hunt was featuring various products via their twitter account all day so I was hoping they’d do one for UserBit but they skipped it completely. Not sure why.

  • 11:30 pm — a shoutout did come finally for UserBit but timing wise it was a bit too late for US audience so this didn’t make much of an impact.

At this point I am very very tired. Going to crash. Happy about the day.
